ORGANISATION: The 2001 conference of the International Association
for the Study of Sexuality Culture and Society (IASSCS) will be
held in Melbourne from 1-3 October, immediately prior to the HIV/AIDS
in Asia and the Pacific Conference. The Australasian Society for
HIV Medicine will also be meeting in Melbourne at this time. The
conference is being convened by Professor Lenore Manderson, Director
of the Key Centre for Women's Health in Society, The University
of Melbourne, with Linda Bennett, Mridula Bandyophadyay and Milica
Markovic.
PROGRAM DETAILS: The theme of the meeting is Belief Systems and
the Place of Desire. This can be interpreted freely, but we encourage
participants to consider how dominant religions and ideologies influence
desire and dominant sexual structures, and how alternatives and
resistances are worked through and appropriated.
PARTICIPATION: To assist us with planning, potential participants
are invited to submit expressions of interest as soon as possible.
The time line is as follows: Paper Titles and panel names - 28 February
2001 Deadline for abstracts of panels, papers and posters (c.100
words) - 31 May 2001 Closing date for presenters and early bird
registration - 30 June, 2001 Conference dates 1-3 October 2001
REGISTRATION: Registration fees will be AUD $300 (US$200) for 3
