В 1999 году исполнилось сто лет с того времени, когда
в Карловом Университете в Праге был прочитан первый курс демографии
(1899-1900 учебный год). Этот юбилей был отмечен, в частности, проведением
в августе 1999 года в Праге "Круглого стола" на тему "Место
демографии среди других дисциплин", в котором приняли участие
многие ведущие европейские демографы. Книга представляет собой сборник
докладов участников "Круглого стола". Россия представлена
в сборнике докладом А. Г. Волкова "Демография и статистика".
