Demographic barometer: Global obesity epidemic is on the rise

  • Compared to 1990, the world-wide obesity prevalence has doubled
  • World-wide, the proportion of overweight people aged 20 and over have reached 35%, in North America – 62%
  • According to WHO estimates, in 2010 the average  BMI of people aged 15 and over  varied across the countries from 20 to 37
